Disco
is like being in a fashion show. You move in an inspired
fashion. It is in disco dance where you do your moves in a
nonchalant manner. Being cool is definitely a hit in disco
dance. You are cool when you use rhythmic consistent steps, you
get loose and you are laid-back. Just smile, get an attitude,
get into the groove. Strut your stuff on the dance floor. Show
off! And have fun.
In the late 1970s
where many major US cities thrived on disco club scenes, the
focus was on the hip nightclubs and private loft parties
where DJs would play disco hits through powerful PA systems for
the dancers. Some clubs had developed their lighting
systems so that they will correspond to the beat of the
music. DJs played hits and the light shows sent excitement
that kept people dancing all night long.
Below: Disco artists were rare in the
'60's, The Supremes being a very famous act. In the '70's,
disco exploded after the phenomenon known as Saturday Night
Fever, a movie starring John Travolta.

Cities established
disco dance schools to teach people how to
do popular dances such as the "the hustle", "touch
dancing" and "the cha-cha". A unique Disco Fashion also
evolved from what disco-goers wore during nights out. Such
fashion included flowing dresses for women and shiny polyester
shirts for men.
For a very short time,
disco dance was a wave of rave for cities across America and
some other parts of the world.
